150 volunteers went to the hinterland for another Christmas Distribution
From 10th to 17th of December, Amigos do Bem held the Christmas distribution 2015. More than 150 volunteers, including 50 who went for the first time, were divided into five groups to visit 150 towns in Alagoas, Ceará and Pernambuco.
Volunteers also visited 30 not registered villages in the state of Paraiba and they delivered more than 2.000 food baskets to needy communities in this region.
The helping hands of volunteers were responsible for the delivery of 25.000 food baskets, 13.000 bags of clothing and layettes and 100.000 toys and sweets for almost 120.000 people.
Socio-educational lectures for children, youth and adults were taught. Dozens of people who are already benefited by our Projects helped in the distribution as local volunteers, taking turns in various activities. Those were moments of joy.
In regions infected by Dengue, Chikungunya and Zika virus, medical volunteers helped with care, medicines and wheelchairs distributions. Entire villages were extremely contaminated by these diseases, so emergency medical care was very important.
The work carried out in the hinterland is developed with the help of over 5.000 volunteers of Amigos do Bem, a great chain of solidarity. These volunteers work all year at our Amigos do Bem Center (Central do Bem) in various working groups, such as the sorting of clothes and toys and in the collecting of food, which takes place every month in large supermarkets of São Paulo.
Each new trip makes our hearts sure that there is still much to be done and that, with the help of many friends’ hands, 2016 will be a year of victories.
